Family Dentistry

At Rosehill, we believe our child patients should receive the same levels of excellent care for as our adults.
Many of our patients choose to have all their family’s dental needs provided for by our talented team – some across three generations and occasionally four!

We want your children to be happy and confident at the dentist.

If we can help them set up good dental care habits at an early age and make visiting the dentist a pleasant experience they will tend to have better looking smiles and need less dental treatment in the future. Patients who we first saw as children and who are now bringing their own children attest to this.

But this doesn’t magically happen. It takes most children time to become accustomed to the sights and sounds of the dentist.

We like to see them regularly for advice  and preventive treatments to reduce their risk of dental problems.

Confidence comes from them becoming familiar with us and not requiring fillings or other dental treatment. A visit when “nothing needs to be done” is a good visit.

First Visits

We are happy to look at your children’s teeth or give advice from any age.

We recommend that you bring your child along when teeth first begin to appear. We can begin to introduce them to the practice and most importantly give advice on dental care and future needs.

As they Grow

As your child grows we try to take a preventative approach to their dental care. Helping them develop teeth that are strong to resist decay and are nicely aligned so that they look and chew well.

Preventive Treatments Include:

  • Fluoride application to help the enamel resist tooth decay.
  • Fissure sealants when the adult molars come in, around 6 years old.
  • Screening orthodontic examination to check for correct development of the bite and tooth/jaw size harmony.
  • Oral Health Instruction to develop good habits and prevent gum disease in later life.

As children lose all their baby teeth, we check for the appropriate time to intervene with braces if required.  Many teenagers prefer Clear Aligner Braces as an alternative to fixed orthodontic braces or ‘train tracks’.

Our philosophy is always to save baby teeth if at all possible, and if they have to be lost, to utilise treatments such as space maintainers which are popular in other countries such as the US to hold the space for the adult teeth to come in.

If fillings are needed we try if possible to only use white fillings.
