Dentures

What are Dentures?

Dentures (or False Teeth) are used to replace missing natural teeth.

They can replace all the natural teeth in one or both jaws – a Full Denture.
or some of the natural teeth if you still have some natural teeth remaining –  a Partial Denture.

They can be either completely of acrylic or of a combination of metal and acrylic parts if greater strength or a more precision fit is required.
Each type has it’s pros and cons and we are happy to discuss which would be appropriate for your needs.

Why do I need a Denture?

Teeth are generally lost either because of Tooth Decay, Advanced Gum Disease or some type of Trauma or Blow to the teeth.

Replacing your missing teeth has quite a few benefits including :

  • Allowing you to smile more naturally with greater confidence.
  • Providing support for sagging lips and facial muscles – stopping you looking older than you may really be.
  • Improving chewing once you have adapted to them.
  • Filling in gaps will generally allow you to speak more clearly.
  • Adjacent natural teeth can often be stabilised by a denture as long as you maintain good oral hygiene.

Bridgework and Dental Implants can in most cases also give these benefits, but Dentures, whilst they are a removable device, can give good results for most people at a significantly more economical cost without the need for the involved surgery of implants and dental procedures of Bridgework.

How will my Dentures Look?

Modern Dentures can be used to replace anywhere between one and all the teeth.

They can be made of materials that give a very natural appearance – the days of dentures looking like a row of tombstones is no more.

With the latest materials Dentures can  both look more natural and be more comfortable than ever before.
