      October News

Do your TLCS need a little TLC?

October is always a busy month in the Scott household with 3 birthdays, one anniversary , half term holidays and  host of dental courses to attend.

At the start of the month we went to a particularly good practice course in Warrington where the speaker, Sheila Scott (no relation) talked about TLCS.
In this case she meant tongue, lips, cheeks and skin and was talking about oral cancer screening. November is mouth cancer awareness month so you will see and hear  lots of information on this topic very soon.
Although we don’t make a song and dance of screening our patients (maybe we should) , we do provide this important screening service every time you come in for an examination.  It’s part of the Rosehill Dental 9 point Examination and the service we provide as part of your dental plan membership.

Simple ways to reduce tour risk of mouth cancer are:
  • reduce your alcohol intake
  • stop smoking or chewing tobacco products
  • avoid gum disease by maintaining healthy gums with regular hygiene visits and good home maintenance.

Sarah and Jill are happy to answer any questions you might have on oral hygiene such as techniques, products or problems you are facing. They aren’t just there for the twice a year tune -up . You can book to see them anytime should you need a ittle motivation or an extra clean smile for that important interview.

                                                    With warm regards
                                                                                                                                                                        Julie

   Practice news

It ws a short but welcome return for Victoria following maternity leave. She will be having surgery on her spine in November and will be returning to us in the New Year after 6 weeks enforced rest. We all wish her a speedy recovery.

Jodie has been busy getting the practice on Facebook ( ) and Twitter ( and look for @rosehill301) and keeping the information on there up to date. We would love you to join us on these sites and hear all the very latest news. Those of you who visit our website rosehilldentalpractice.co.uk will also notice its new look. We hope to have this finished very soon.

This month’s recipe comes from our friends at the Yummy Cookery Club. For more tasty, easy to follow recipes that you don’t have to be Nigella to make why not visit them at

 Sausage and Bean Casserole

This is a great one-pot recipe for making on chilly evenings. It’s very simple and relies mainly on store cupboard ingredients, which is always a bonus! It serves between 4 (see photo on the right) and 6 people, depending on if you are serving anything on the side (crusty bread works well for dipping up the juices!) and how hungry they are.

Sausage and Bean Casserole

Sausage and Bean Casserole

Timings: Start to finish: 45mins of prep / cooking.

Ingredients:

12 . I used Cumberland here but you can use other varieties, including quorn.

1 tsp vegetable  for frying

1kg

2 x 400g tins chopped

1 x 400g tin

1 x 400g tin

1 x jar of tomato based pasta sauce. I used Gordon Ramsay’s Bolognese in the pictures but it also works really well with basic ranges

2 x rounded tsps

For this recipe you will also need:

large

Method:

1. Wash the baby new potatoes and slice them lengthways into quarters. You can also slice them into 1 cm thick discs if you prefer the look of them, the cooking time will be the same.

2. Heat the vegetable oil in your pan and fry half the sausages until they are golden brown all over. To do this best, keep them moving using your wooden spoon. Set them on one side, do the second batch and remove them from the pan. You’ll find that the second batch will brown a lot quicker because your pan will be a lot hotter. The sausages only need to browned, not cooked all the way through, as below.

3. Now add the sliced potatoes to your empty pan and place the sausages on top. Cover with the chopped tomatoes, pasta sauce and sprinkle the sweet paprika over the top. Mix everything well, taking care not to break up the sausages. Put the lid on, bring everything to the boil and simmer on a low heat for 20 mins, stirring every 5 mins to make sure it’s not catching on the bottom.

4. After 20 mins, drain the mixed beans and rinse them thoroughly in a sieve until the water running through runs clear. Add them to the casserole with the baked beans (still in their juices), stir well, put the lid back on and cook for a further 5 minutes.

5. Serve immediately and enjoy :D
