June 2013 Practice Newsletter

From Scott HQ…….
I had a patient in the practice last week who was about to celebrate her 80th birthday.
She was terribly proud of the fact she still had most of her own teeth and we chatted about dentistry in years gone by and how we generally live longer now.

The pop group Queen once asked, “Who wants to live for ever?….” Forever is a long time but I certainly want to stay around a bit longer.

So what are the ‘professionals’ currently telling us to do in order to increase our allotted 4 score and 10  years on this planet? You might be surprised..

GET ALONG WITH YOUR MOTHER
(Hi Mum! Yes that’s you below!)

A study at Harvard University revealed that 91% of people who weren’t close with their mother developed a serious disease by middle age.

GET LESS SLEEP

A recent study found that people who sleep slightly less than eight hours a night (around six-seven) have a significantly lower rate of mortality than those who sleep more than eight and less than four

EAT GARLIC

Garlic has been found to reduce blood pressure, prevent cancer, and boost the immune system but please don’t eat it before coming to see me!

EAT CHOCOLATE
(oh my, should I include this??)

A Harvard University study found that people who eat chocolate a few times a week tend to live longer than those who eat it sparingly or not at all.

LEARN TO PLAY THE BANJO (like Steve Martin)
Any new skill will do to keep the brain active, but I think the world needs more banjo players.

FLOSS

Yes there had to be a dental link, but bacteria in your teeth can cause your arteries to swell, in turn causing heart disease.
You have been warned...

I’m heading straight for a bar of Dairy Milk….

                 Until next time, keep smiling…
